Community Supported Fishing?

Like a CSA, except each week you pick up a box of sustainably-harvested seafood.

Awesome!

  1. Through my work, we have this kind of program for both seafood and for produce. And actually, many of the farms that give the produce also have options for poultry, pork, and beef. I haven't signed up, mostly because I'd be worried I would be able to eat even a half share of the seafood each week!

  2. That's so cool! It is surprising how fast that food adds up. My office mate and her husband split a cowshare with some friends and got 100 lbs of beef in their freezer, which if you think about it, is enough to eat it several days a week for a year! What kind of seafood would you get if you did it?

  3. We've got lots of great seafood that they catch here in North Carolina, so I'm sure it would be diverse. Here's another seafood "CSA" that is in Carrboro, which is basically Chapel Hill (which is next to Durham):

What will be in my share each week?

We will strive to include a diverse range of seafood with the composition of each week’s portion varying depending on seasonal availability and weather conditions. Members can expect to receive such species as Blue Fish, Black Drum, Black Sea Bass, Clams, Soft-Shell Crabs, Blue Crabs, Croaker, Flounder, Grey Trout, Grouper, Hog Fish, Jumping Mullet, Mahi Mahi, Oysters, Red Fish, Sea Mullet, Sea Scallops, Sheephead, Shrimp, Snapper, Spanish Mackerel, Speckled Trout, Spot, Trigger Fish. Most seafood supplied will be caught within Core Sound, when available some fish will be caught off shore out of the sound, though always locally. Typically, each weekly share will have two types of seafood in it.
